Rick, it is not my intention to derail the continued and deserved skewering of von Emster, but ... wouldn't be a bit fairer to use similar time points to compare performances? As you point out, September of 98 saw a pretty bad dip in biotech issues; around that time you - astutely - started "bounce" (right when I was panicking and hiding brokerage statements from the Mrs -g-),

So here are some data to try to make the oranges look more like apples (as expected, "bounce" still destroys the big guys). These are weekly closes extracted using the "Table" feature at Yahoo!, and I am assuming no distributions for capital gains or the like.

FBDIX:
17-Jun-99 42.99 ** today
28-Sep-98 31.1
21-Sep-98 31.75
14-Sep-98 30.01
7-Sep-98 29.6
31-Aug-98 27.78 ** as of today it is up 55 % from here
24-Aug-98 28.96

FBIOX:
17-Jun-99 24.81 ** today
28-Sep-98 20.44
21-Sep-98 21.75
14-Sep-98 20.62
7-Sep-98 19.78
31-Aug-98 18.22 up 36 % from here
24-Aug-98 18.98

This is a link to the Yahoo! chart of these issues, look at the double bottom in the Summer-Fall of 98:

I will further antagonize you on Pfizer in another thread -g-

PS-Edit- I am not sure Kurt reads *this* particular thread, but it would be fun if he does, eh?

< should I sell SUGN out of the portfolio and redeploy, or wait for the guaranteed smidge?>

Wouldn't the portfolio have to pay taxes then to compare to the funds??
