Divx players that are in production now and scheduled to ship this summer will be sold as DVD players, said John Taylor, a Zenith spokesman.

I would have thought that they wouldn't even be good for that... aren't they missing some features that just about every other player has? They'll have to really discount them, as in practically give'em away.

It's insane how CUBE gets treated at options expiration. I protest.

NTL - DIGITAL LAUNCH DATE AND NATIONAL PLANS

Or use your browser BACK button to return to the previous page. In the wake of its re-branding and a national advertising campaign NTL (sorry ... ntl) has announced a launch date of September 1st for its roll-out of digital TV services. Trials are starting immediately with commercial trials in July and August. The aim is a national launch which would be implemented over cable within ntl franchise areas and using digital terrestrial TV elsewhere.
ntl will be offering a low-cost bundle of services at a single price, as pioneered with its analogue cable service, and is anticipating 250,000 subscribers within one year. The bundle can include TV, telephone, internet access and interactive services. The cable implementation will also offer a national call tariff lower than that offered by BT, and the option of high speed Internet access.
Outside cabled areas the standard telephone connection will also play an important role.

For the first time ntl has announced a long term target of attaining 60% total service penetration for all its residential connections in its cabled areas by 2003. It currently has a 44% penetration when all services are taken into account.
ntl is seeking to become a major force in the UK and European communications market. The new digital media centre to be opened soon in Langley, Buckinghamshire will be able to programme and control cable networks in the UK and across Europe. Ireland's Cablelink and the French 1G networks in Paris and Toulon, recently acquired by ntl, will be able to take programming and integrated communications services from Langley.
