It seems to me, If I remember correctly, that the Fed hiked 18 months or so before the last two Presidential elections. It's like a preemptive slow down which gives the market time to be perking up really nicely around the election. Remember, it's the economy stupid!

Does anyone know where to get a time line of the interest rate adjustments in the last 7 years?

Also, does anyone know where or how to get a CALENDAR YEAR chart for AOL for 1996, 1997, 1998? Is there a seasonality to the pullbacks or any other pattern?

I rarely follow who is who at the fed but on this point I agree that Greenspan wnats to be remembered as the watchdog of this great expansion and if Rubin is in after him then we are "set" IMO since he speaks the language of the market and i like how he handled the asia blowup last october.
