No, there are only 2 e-banks worth acquiring really (not that I follow them, maybe there are some upstarts out there), e-trade picked up telebank very recently and ameritrade will probably pick up netbank (valued around 800mm?). Ameritrade has invested in netbank.

So it looks like the financial sites are expanding into banking services either by acquisition or build. When I looked into netbank at first I thought, so what. But in truth these e-banks are kind of interesting. They have deals with all the star systems and atms are free. All banking is done via e-mail and they run their operations in lower cost areas with no branches so CD rates are higher. As opposed to traditional banks who might open an e-branch but still they have to maintain their branches because local govt wont let them close. Datek will probably expand there I guess. SI is a pretty strong component to a financial portal I would say. Maybe a good play is to buy datek stock here since it isn't valued like ameritrade or e-trade really, and with an SI connection the whole is worth more than the sum of the parts

Maybe they would buy netbank and add this feature to the site. Or maybe the will combine SI a broker ad a bank to compete with etrade.
