Well, that is exactly the problem with buying and turning a mini....either from the long or the short side. Unless you are long from a significant bottom, the margin requirements will eat up your profits over the years in the way the SPY would not. You would have to put in more capital than the orginal $10K. It would be an interesting exercise to do all the math, but the key would be buying one at a significant bottom.....something that is not all that easy.

I had thought I had heard most things....but still short from 970? Seems insane........

I've heard of that type of play, essentially pyramiding with the profits from the earlier Short (or Long, whatever).

I understand that it works very well. I am surprised that someone would allow the market to go 400 points against him though. That's one heck of a percentage move.
