Doesn't Steve Jobs have a personal "emotional" investment with Apple with the creation of the Mac? I could be wrong, but I think he just couldn't let his baby die.

Yes, that's a good point corporate culture is a major factor in such things.

Although CPQ is not as "blue-suit, white shirt and tie" as IBM.

I guess the next best thing would be Larry Ellison of Oracle.

CEO of a company that MSFT has put a lot of resources into destroying. Yet, the company is very doing well against all odds.

Ellison is also a good friend of S. Jobs.
