Jim, how about this senario...

Given:
The CD is the most popular means of storage & looks to stay that way for some time to come.

The CD could store more EPAC music than the current codec because it is more compact.

Internet music will be able to be downloaded to hard disk &/or directly to the EPAC flash memory card. Loading flash memory from hard disk is obviously possible.

Proposed:
A. Objective: Music music music. (Video, later)

Have software/firmware available that would:
1. Copy music from Internet to flash memory(EPAC).
2. Copy music from hard disk to flash memory(EPAC).
3. Copy music from CD (regular or EPAC) to flash memory(EPAC).
4. Copy CD, hard disk, or flash memory music to CD(writeable drive) in either regular or EPAC codec.
5. Record from any audio source to hard disk in EPAC codec (can do regular codec right now). (ie: from tape recorders, old phonographs, microphone, etc.)
6. Same as #5 except to flash memory as a feature of the EPAC player.

Create a new generation of the normal CD player that would have the enhanced features to:
1. Play CD's in normal codec AS WELL AS EPAC codec.
2. Play from flash memory.
3. Record from CD (both codecs) to flash memory.
4. Record from other audio sources to flash memory.

Now, with all those tools, one would have all the flexibility one would want.

Everyone involved would do their thing to make it happen...
Lucent/EDIG would obviously have their hand in the cookie jar!

I know I have missed on some fine points, but the general idea is there.

Just my thoughts... What do you think?

Thank you,
Joe
