EMKR in the US and Aixtron in Europe,
Emkr is in deals with both UTCI and GE involving
production of LEDs for illlumination, traffic
lights, and other purposes. Seimens and Hwp are
also involved in LEDs and I believe EMKR has them
as customers.
The non Si wafers used for LEDs are compound
seme materials such as Galium Arsenide + other
stuff et al

Look at AXTI as a major supplier of the wafers of
various compund materials. They just hooked up with a germanium producing operation in China to ensure supply.

GaAs also used in mobile and cell phoones etc but
there is talk of a silicon based competitor. This
goes beyond my expertise, such as it is, so someone
else will have to jump in here to help us out.

My interest is in the potential of LEDs to
eventually replace incandescent and fluorescent
lighting as the LEDs are more efficient and have
life of about 100,000 hours !

Any interest out there?
