Jim, Re: This is where Gateway outfoxed DELL. By buying K6-2s they got in line for the K7. All DELL will be able to do is get P-IIIs at a special price...oops, there goes the Intel margins...

Sigh. You should learn more about Dell's model. When K7 based
system is mature(if it will) and profitable, Dell will get in
and I am sure AMD would be more than happy to offer them whatever price they want. Remember, it is the market that Dell is in which
K7 is targetting, the high margin corporate market. The reason that
Dell is an Intel only shop is because that is the only thing that
is profitable, not because any love/hate or whatever reason. Business
is business and MD is definitely good at that.

jIM, RE: "All DELL will be able to do is get P-IIIs at a special price..."

Do you really think that Dell will be shut out from K7 production? If AMD has a spare million K7 chips to sell and Michael Dell drops a dime on AMD -- do you REALLY think that AMD will ignore it?

IMHO, there's not the eensiest, teeniest chance of that happening. IMHO it is more likely that AMD will never have a million K7s to sell to anyone ... ever. Or, even wrose, by the time they have them no one will care.

Let the little guys queue up all they want but if and when AMD has enough production, those little guys will be eating dirt. Unless history stops repeating itself, you can count on it. Not that M. Dell gives a hoot about AMD or that he is ready to set Intel aside but if AMD ever delivers (in volume) better than Intel can deliver top-point CPUs, then and only then will Dell give AMD a shot.

Mega-multi-billionaires think differently than the average AMD shareholder. Given AMD's history, it's no wonder.

Seems that Foxy Gateway took a pass on the Kmart 63 - why do you think they are going to use the Kslop 7 ?
