FYI:

A message from General Magic's CEO, Steve
Markman.

June 21, 1999

Today, General Magic announced a partnership with
Excite@Home that presents a huge opportunity for
us in the Internet space. More details are available in
two press releases posted on our Web site.

Our relationship with Excite@Home includes three key
elements:

a $6 million investment in General Magic by
Excite@Home, which gives us additional
flexibility in pursuing our Internet initiatives;

an agreement to share net revenues generated from audio and banner advertising on
Excite@Home?s new Excite Voicemail Web service. Excite and General Magic plan to
use advertising properties throughout Excite?s extensive Web site to advertise the
new service.

a technology component, whereby our unique magicTalk voice user interface and the
Network Operations Center will be used in the Excite Voicemail service.

Excite Voicemail is a free, advertising-supported service that allows Excite users to receive
voicemail and faxes in their Excite e-mail accounts. When they sign up on the
voicemail.excite.com Web site, users get a toll-free number and select a 10-digit personal
extension. The user can give the toll-free number and extension to anyone with whom they
wish to communicate. That person can leave a private voicemail message or send a fax using the
toll-free number.

The service gives Excite?s e-mail account users a very convenient way to receive all their
messages in one place while keeping in touch with family, friends and colleagues. Our magicTalk
interface will make it easy for callers to access the service and enjoy a pleasant, conversational
experience. With this launch, Excite@Home has clearly raised the bar in the Web portal world
by being the first to deploy voice-based technology. Over time, we anticipate that millions of
Excite e-mail users will establish accounts on the new service.

Excite@Home?s decision to adopt our voice-enabled services is further evidence of the rapid
development of this market, and recognition of our leadership position. Although we expect to
see competitors with seemingly similar unified messaging services, we believe our approach is
unparalleled in a free Internet service.

Our magicTalk voice user interface sets the standard for quality, performance and what I?ll just
call the "Wow!" factor. The appeal of our technology to users from all walks of life, and the
commitment of our people to Excite?s vision, were prime reasons Excite chose to partner with
us. Excite was also favorably influenced by the approach of using toll-free numbers because it
provides an excellent telephony experience and nationwide access.

As more consumers become comfortable and familiar with this technology, we believe more of
them will want to take advantage of additional value offered through fee-based voice-enabled
services in the future. We are building up considerable momentum, and I look forward to a bright
future.
