New Information On Compaq Website; Compaq Tops Workstation Benchmarks Three
Firsts in Highly Regarded Bench99 Testing

Business/Technology Editors

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 21, 1999--Outpacing all
competitors, Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE:CPQ) swept top ratings
in the influential Bench99 test conducted by Pro/E The Magazine, an
independent publication for Pro/ENGINEER users.

--Fastest Windows NT workstation: the Compaq Professional
Workstation XP1000 (667MHz) with a Compaq PowerStorm 300 graphics card

--Fastest CPU: the Compaq Professional Workstation XP1000
(667MHz) with a PowerStorm 300 graphics card

--#1 Price/Performance and Best Value: the Compaq Professional
Workstation AP200 with an Oxygen GVX1 graphics card

The Bench99 test, a well-known and powerful metric in the MCAD
market, is designed to measure the performance of those functions
important to the productivity of 3D CAD designers. Other vendors
measured included Dell, Intergraph, HP, IBM, SGI, NTSI, MaxVision, and
Core Microsystems.
The editors of the magazine noted: "The Compaq AP200 is the best
price and the best value. It sacrifices nothing in terms of its
hardware configuration, allowing users to run Pro/ENGINEER on a
top-notch NT workstation for a price of $3,336." The Alpha-based
XP1000, the editors said, was "an excellent choice for those users
with big assemblies, huge drawings and complex models with long
regeneration times."

availability. These performance milestones demonstrate Compaq's
continuing commitment to lowering customers' ownership costs over the

I can understand completely why you are some down on CPQ these days, El, but from my own experience, I have found CPQs service excellent and I have been very, very happy with everything (desktops and notebook) I have purchased over the past +/- 15 years. Never having bought anything in the Presario line, I can not comment on these products. When it comes to Deskpros, Prolineas, Prosignias (desktop), and my wonder, 2 month old Armada 7400 notebook, however, I have been one very happy customer.

Its the darn management that's the problem.
