Since we are on the subject of Allen, do you know what this Interval Research Corp does for Vulcan? ...Everybody moved to Seattle from here which is probably why you guys are so peeved!

It turns out that's one outfit that didn't move from there to here. Here's the full extent of the explanation of the company from this site: paulallen.com

Interval Research is located several hundred miles south of Allen's suburban Seattle headquarters but only a short walk from the legendary Xerox PARC think tank that pioneered graphic user interfaces, the mouse and the laser printer. Allen set up Interval in 1992, under the direction of former PARC and Metaphor leader David Liddle. Its 10-year, $100 million charter: to investigate new tools, applications and industry infrastructures to manage the vast quantities of information that the Wired World will make available. Allen wants Interval to take "a more exploratory approach than can be taken when developing competitive products for an existing market."
