It's not the weather problems that affect those huge dishes...but every once in awhile there are the sun spot problems, but hardly enough to mention. My DSS goes out when a severe thunderstorm comes through...and only for a minute or so.

>> I used to have a satellite dish, but there were constant weather and intereference problems. This was 10 years ago, so I'm not sure how good they are these days. I still think AOL will need a cable plan and a price competetive phone plan.

The satellite dishes used by networks like CNN and downloaded to cable are about 1000x larger and more reliable than the $100 dish a lot of people throw on their roof. It's the dinky dishes that are more susceptible to weather problems. My experience with those dishes was unpleasant, but hey maybe the technology will improve drastically and this will be the future. I genuinely don't know.

As a first generation satellite owner(almost 5 years)I can say this.I've had about 12 hours total outage in that period of time with Direct TV.No cable owner in this country can match that .

Above are two posts from you and one from me.You state you've not had satellite for 10 years but you refer to present models as "dinky".How do you make that determination with no hands on experience?Present day dishes went on sale Sept 94,well past the time you stopped being a user.

What type dish did you own 10 years ago?
