You really have got to read this...Then look at both pictures that accompany the story and read the captions.

(Before last week's Air Force Y2K Flag "no surprises" crash of two F-15s I might have had one of those ROTFLMAO episodes, printed the picture of the plane in the water and taped it next to my picture of Alfred E. Nueman. This just ain't so damn funny anymore.)

Just checked in with my friends at Infoliant. This is a Pennsylvania-based company that summarizes public vendor information about Y2K status. Then they drop it into a format so that you have some chance of figuring out what the heck it means. Very useful.

Anyway, they are in a peculiar sales position. On the one hand, they have top notch customers like NASA, IBM Global Systems and DuPont asking for more help. But the typical company doesn't seem to think that they need the service. One of the top notchers has arranged to have Infoliant's data behind their firewall so that they can still reach it if the Internet has problems.

The Most Knowledgeable are the Most Concerned. This has been my consistent experience since I started researching Y2K two years ago.

In the meantime, the press reports optimistic industry surveys as though they were facts. Where else do we have such a dangerous issue and the press simply reports what the PR people have to say? Hey, where is the investigative reporting?

Thanks for listening. I feel better now.
