I wonder how this relates to the rumor of CMGI purchasing LCOS next month when Barry ("Please-don't-call-me-Phyllis") Diller's exclusive purchase period expires. Is buying 100 percent of AltaVista better than buying 80 percent of LCOS? I've used AltaVista and it's a great search engine. Period. (Though, frankly, I prefer Hotbot to AV...) AltaVista is not CLOSE to a portal. LCOS is the Internet's #2 site and has critical mass/mindshare and a great search engine. So... why take a step backward? Anyone think this whole sitch became personal between DW and Bob Davis and DW wants to step on Bob's airhose a bit? Regardless, I'm skeptical about this move. Let's just take out LCOS and get immediate retail mindshare. Developing AV into a competitive portal would be a monumental task. Anyone else have thoughts about this? Scarecrow
