Mark...you like these markets...but if one is just mainly long (as myself), it sure can be bizarre and surreal! I know there's a holy war going on, I just don't know who's fighting whom.

Not really. Volatility goes up when a stock has a sudden fall. Traders are fearful of a big fall and grabbing for puts to hedge or to profit from further declines. It is a function of fear.
