O.K.--As a graduate mechanical engineer some 40 years ago, I understand that oil and such are needed to keep engines running, and the coolant is used to control the temperature to workable levels and to protect the oil etc..
What I am trying to say is that EXCESS heat is lost energy. As a matter of fact, any heat given up to coolants(air or liquid or whatever, is LOST energy. It is what figures quite heavily into the efficiency equation.
