"Aune said two types of data storage systems -- storage area networks and network attached storage systems -- are likely to dominate that market."

His terminology throws me a bit. Are "storage area networks" several storage facilities networked together to act as one? And, are "network attached storage systems" one storage facility with networked terminals?

He must be referring to the enterprise market that is about $4.8 billion in 1999 if it is still about 15% the $32 billion total disk drive market (according to the Disk Trend report we recently saw). This would put the growth rate about 27% compounded annually.

guess that Aune's "prediction" for storage hardware
being a multi-billion dollar business doesn't take him too far out on a limb

Not many analysts going out on a limb (QNTM pump and dump aside) after the recent round of pre-announcements.

BTW, do you think that SEG will warn? Must say that i have been expecting it, but it is getting late. If SEG's vertical integration model has kept them profitable during the price war this quarter they might continue the insanity.
