Not to forget their much touted failure of a similar Ascend-Cascade deal has proven them wrong and whipped their butts good and red. They just shrug that off and continue with the same BS propaganda. But when Cisco buys Geotel from the east coast for $2 Billion its a perfect fit. Cisco is a great marketing machine. -Hitesh

Brian, djane, I believe the reference to open systems is targeted at telephony OSS and API's within that structure. In these environments there are proprietary API's between the platform, middleware and application layers. Cisco wants those API's to be open so that independent application vendors can write apps onto the OSS systems. It is true that Cisco maintains some proprietary protocols on their routers...but they also support standards as well. There is no requirement that a user deploy the cisco proprietary protocols in their infrastructure.. Typically they do however because it provides better performance..thus the reason JNPR routers will also support these "de-facto" standars on their core-routers. OG
