Debt is a natural by-product of economic expansions, just as radioactive waste is a by-product of nuclear power generation. As long as the expansion continues, debt will continue to pile up, and as it piles up, real interest rates must rise to attract buyers, suffocating the stock market. In the end, the "wealth" contained in the stock market must be thrown into the fire in order to make good on the debt. The fed can huff and puff all they want, but I think they are the cart.
