...today I'm not taxed directly by the UN, That is taxation without representation...

It seems to me that is the least of the worries of any form of UN taxation. So long as the UN is funded by more or less voluntary contributions from member states, it is what it was intended to be; a forum to discuss and work out differences among nations. Once it has the power to tax, though, it also has the power to rule.

And I don't like that idea at all.

On the other topics, I'm almost set to agree, we need govt out of gold, as this behind the scenes fixing sucks.

The quandary the gold sector faces is that without gov't intervention in the gold sector, and perpetuating the myth that gold is currency, gold will trade on its commodity status for jewelry and electro-plating... etc.

It would also lose those gov't subsidies like Jesse Helms is unwittingly(?) advocating for the S. African gold industry. Afterall, were it not for the gov't treating gold like currency, productive assets could be reallocated towards more productive and economically beneficial purposes.

There is very little productive benefit to mining tons of gold only to mint it into coinage or warehouse it.

Regards,

Ron

Well on the UN thingy , it's never going to work like most
people think it should, it can't. Still it's something
we need even if it only works half arsed.
For all of it's short comings , and ineffectiveness it's never
going to be the right wrench for any one job, it's like the
old knuckle breaking money wrench , but I doubt we ever can
find a right wrench, something is better than not having any
thing at all. ON top of that if it ever get as good at keeping
the peace as most think it must do then for sure we have a police
state.
The most important thing it has done for the world,
lives but is commended by it's nature to obscurity,
as its hard to pin down and measure "when" the pressure
was so intense that with out the forum of the UN being
there an acting like pressure relief valve; I would
not be typing this or you reading it. Of taht I am certain.

We came to the brink of total Global destruction more than any
official is comfortable to admit, and closer than many of them
have brains to figure out. There was some luck too, but with
out the UN I'm sure this world would still be digging out
with half the population gone the other half suffering radiation
sickness. ( at best ) AS we really did do some extremely
stupid stuff with the nukes, very very stupid.

The UN with all it's faults gave us some time, and let some
luck have a chance to work. It is more than any thing else
a pressure relief valve, I don't know how to put a price on it
but I know with out it we wouldn't be here.
---------------
As for funding it , I don't want it to collect taxes, but
it could receive funds via the money swap tax,
and in a way it would then be funded the most by the ones
who get the most benefit out of it's existence the "money monkeys"
as I call them.
Anyway we pay for it as it is, and the way it's being funded
now is stupid. It still comes from tax money..just the money
monkeys have every one else paying for it but them.
Jim
It will never be "right" or suit any majority, hell very few
forms of any government or bureaucracy can measure up to that,
"IF ANY" they are just there and hopefully manage to
mitigate problems enough that people with better minds and
hearts can have the time to find a better way to resolve all the conflicts of interest we are confronted with.
