The numbers also leave AMD in a weak position as it introduces its newest chip,
previously called the K7 but now dubbed the Athlon microprocessor. AMD
simply cannot afford to incur such enormous losses at a time it needs to invest
research and development funds to push its technology ahead, said Keith
Diefendorff, editor-in-chief of Microprocessor Report.

Is there any doubt that this was why Intel has so vigorously cut prices? Not only have they ruined the K-6, but they have wounded the K-7. Damn they're good. Only a fool (JS) would build a career around fighting them.

Tony,
..... I forget, which way does the spiral go in the northern hemisphere, clockwise or counter-clockwise?

I get counter-clockwise. I went and flushed the toilet with a piece of paper marked AMD.

Hope we are all in agreement that it's counter-clockwise in the northern hemisphere,
humble carl

Tony:

With the Kathlon chip it seems to me that AMD is leaving the part of the market that didn't know a micro chip from a potato chip to compete in a part of the market that cares very much about internal components, reliability and deliverability.

If I were an AMD shareholder I'd kind of feel like a New York Knicks fan about now. AMD is playing an away game.

Regards,

Greg
