I agree that defending Clinton's actions is as futile as hammering a nail with jello. FWIW I think many people, not just liberals, were willing to look the other way on this whole saga at least in part due to a fear that the "Creepy Coalition" Republicans might yet again take control of Washington as they did in the mid 80's, when Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson et al were at the heights of their power in terms of clout within the government. For instance, how else does one explain NOW's relative silence on the matter vs. the Packwood scandal? Kinda like the saying "The devil you know is better than the devil you don't know."
