If they match the speed grades then AMD still wins BIG.

Remember 1M units/QTR is relatively low volumes in the Intel scheme of things.

Now if they beat AMD's speed grades say by 100Mhz and can ship lots of parts in 700-1Ghz by Q4 then AMD will be in trouble again.

The current thinking is that Culatermine even with RDRAM will not beat an equivalent K7 on a per clock basis- now I am certainly willing to be convinced otherwise when the benchmarks show up.

I am hearing that Cu speeds up interconnect delays by 25-30%.

That should translate to perhaps a 10-20% speed improvement on a system clock basis.

So if Jerry is right and 0.18 micron with Cu comes on line by Q1 2000 then you see 1Ghz K7's with die sizes of 100mm2 by q1/q2 2000.

BTW, one of the CC comments that was made was the 0.18 K7 wafers had been started. That means that the chip design and layout is already complete. Pretty amazing those AMD designers!!!
