Phil;

I don't have all the answers on this one, but here is my best try:

As we heard over the past few months, as line widths decrease, cleaning is becoming as much more serious issue, and this will be a major growth area for for folks in the dry clean biz such as Mattson. Gasonics claims this as a separate growth, their key to the future. (skeptics might say this is somewhat to distract the fact they are rapidly loosing market share to Mattson). I hear the folks at Mattson strongly feel they have the better tools/process for this area and have, so far, not appeared to be making a big deal of it. I look for them to have a strong #1 position in this new area also.

So today I see this new announcement & my assumption is CFM is loosing some of it's traditional cleaning jobs (and maybe gaining some new ones - not sure). Likely they decide it's better for them, and Mattson too, to team up with the one poised to be the leader in the dry end as this area goes through some significant change. Net processes should be more effective (and Gasonics might get even further behind). Please note I am trying to piece this together & this 2nd paragraph might not be totally correct. ..I'm open to help from others to help fill/correct this.

I'm beginning to think the new low K strip/clean tool that I assume will be introduced at Semicon may contain a wider array of app's than we think. ..Time will tell soon.

Best Regards,
John Stewart

ps. Just got word that I'll be moving to your home state soon (Richmond).
