Raytec Antimicrobial Division takes shape. Food Safety issues are currently at the forefront of all aspects of the food chain. This means that everyone from the growers to the consumers are seeking solutions to the ever growing concerns about the food they grow and consume. Raytec Corporation has made food safety issues the new platform for company growth and expansion. In order to meet these needs RC has developed key technologies and patents around antimicrobial compounds. While the past few years have been focused on product development it has not been until recently that these products have been ready for the market. The first product that Raytec has put into the market is ShrinkGUARD with its official roll-out at the FMI trade show in Chicago last month. Raytec attracted a lot of interest with ShrinkGUARD and the company is excited about its future and other products to be launched over the next year. Currently ShrinkGUARD is in the third phase of roll-out which means that in store testing with the customer is currently taking place. Past testing has shown that ShrinkGUARD is capable of delivering more sales to each grocery store in the produce department by reducing shrink loss. This fact will be put to the test by running nearly 100 stores on the program over the next few months with major progressive grocery chains. Raytec anticipates that the grocery chains will see the results firsthand and soon be enjoying the benefits of the ShrinkGUARD program in many of their stores. While Raytec has primarily developed the dmClO2 technology, other antimicrobial compositions have also been developed by Raytec and will be finding their way into the marketplace in the future. Additional patents are under construction for these products and the applications for them in the field. Having seen the initial success in developing dmClO2, other compounds to compliment dmClO2 are being developed and patented by Raytec. These products include a new dry formula for the agriculture industry as a fungicide powder that could potentially replace most fungicide products currently in the market. This new product uses an entirely different active ingredient than the chlorine dioxide of the current core technology dmClO2. However, fewer regulation concerns will potentially put it into the market quickly. "We want to provide the best product for the job" says Mr. Girard. "There are spoilage organisms out there that are cutting into the profits of the grower and we think we have technology that will change that." Mr. Girard anticipates this product to be in the marketplace by the fall of next year if not sooner. Raytec is committed to become a market leader in the antimicrobial business. This is evident just by looking at the team Raytec has assembled for this purpose. The antimicrobial division has shaped up with a core of dedicated professionals. Jim Ringo, Director of the Antimicrobial Division, has over 15 years experience as a microbiologist. He also holds a Masters degree in Microbiology. Twelve of those years were with an antimicrobial company where he carried out product development, registrations, manufacturing design and intellectual property management. Mr. Ringo is considered to be one of the top experts in the field of chlorine dioxide and antimicrobial technologies. John Kennedy, Products Manager, oversees the details of the product from manufacturing to shipping. Mr. Kennedy has an extensive background in science ranging from working for Kerr-McGee in a nuclear facility lab to handling sampling and safety compliance issues with an asbestos company. Most notably Mr. Kennedy spent several years as assistant plant supervisor and then plant manager for an antimicrobial manufacturing company dedicated to chlorine dioxide. Blair Girard, VP of Business Development, has over twenty years experience in business. His background is primarily in sales and marketing ranging from direct retail to industrial sales. Mr. Girard also holds a B.S. degree in Chemistry and formerly served in the laboratory as a lab director. His mix of science and sales backgrounds is a perfect blend needed to be successful in this industry. Raytec is currently scaling up its R&D efforts along with an aggressive marketing and distribution plans. "Our decision, to focus on the food and eventually the medical industry, gives us a comfort level for the future. Regardless of where the economy goes, people are going to eat and get sick, hopefully not in that order, and we hope to be a large part of that solution in the near future." states Mr. Girard.
