We had two kitties: Staccato and Legato. Legato died with kidney problems. The vet was trying surgery and said that he couldn't justify allowing this cat to come back. So we told him to go ahead. My husband called me at school. Fortunately I was on break. I cried terribly. I called my Mom. She cried. Then I went to my room to have a class of children waiting for me.

"awww, Miz Young, whut's makin' you so sad?" I bawled in front of those poor 4th graders. "Miz Young, my cat just had kittens, you wanna come home with me after school and git one?"

Then we brought home my mother's cat when she knew she couldn't care for her. That was Princess. Before Mom, Princess had been abused and still didn't have a lot of trust of people. But we gradually won her over.

She developed little tumors all over her tummy and once again we had to put her to sleep.

Legato and Princess reside in cozy little coffins in the pet cemetary with a space for Staccato, who is now 16. And now we have Gracie as well.

Its a amazing what a little love can do and kitties and doggies tend to teach us how.

A couple of weeks ago our dog died suddenly from liver cancer and my wife and I were crushed. Ginger was a foster child and juvenile delinquent when we rescued her from the kennel and was only three years old in the prime of her life when she died. She had a unique personality and we miss her very much. During our period of mourning a friend sent us the following:

THE RAINBOW BRIDGE

There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the "Rainbow Bridge" because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills, and valleys with lush green grass.

When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. The old and frail animals are young again. Those who are maimed are made whole again. They play all day with each other.

There is only one thing missing They are not with their special person who loved them on Earth. So, each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up! The nose twitches! The ears are up! The eyes are staring! And this one suddenly runs from the group!

You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet, you take him/her in your arms and embrace. Your face is kissed again, again, and again and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.

It really helped soothe our sorrow.

Now we have another puppy and it has been really fun trying to trade the markets and house break a young'n at the same time. Little puppy kisses are cool....
