X, I think a lot of the fear that Christians have of unChristians is taught in church. Whenever a religion is dominant there is energy exerted to make sure it stays that way. At the same time, since some people who are religious are also either brainwashed or ignorant or narrow-minded, they don't all tend to do their own research, and so believe whatever scare tactics are used.

Also, once someone has been taught to believe in God, superstition is created, and a contrast between good and evil is then part of that person's perception. I was absolutely stunned when my husband told me he thought I was casting spells on him in the middle of the night, first because I have no idea how to cast a spell, and secondly because I realized that even though his Catholicism is fairly open-minded and faded, he brought some fear forward from his Irish childhood about people who don't believe in God being negative and frightening.
