I have never understood why they were quite so hostile to Bush, and so insensitive to the danger of putting Clinton in the White House. I remember the first debate of the Democratic candidates that I saw. It was obvious that Clinton was smarmy from the start! He was so oily, and had one of those pasted on grins that never alters, and was full of hot air on specifics. He made Jerry Brown look substantial, and Tom Harkin look like a paragon of sincerity. I would sooner have voted for Harkin, who is egregiously liberal, although his behavior during the impeachment mess has led me to re- assess his character...

Dear sandintoes - Most of Buchanan's supporters care not a wit about Perot. His most ardent support comes from Traditional Catholics, who Perot regards with disdain. I volunteered for three weeks in New Hampshire in 96, then did work in Connecticut, and I must say that most folks who were volunteers were humble and gracious people. The little old ladies who enjoyed saying the rosary together were a pleasure to know. There was, however, that cadre of right-wing frat-boys who could be irritating. But those guys were OK. As much as I hate to admit it, there is an element in his support (2-3%?) that believes some not very nice things, and they are ill tempered. Of course, it is that element the media chooses to focus on. Yours truly, bitter and UGLY :)
