It seems to me that CMGI will have to use up most of their $1billion cash hoard to get Alta Vista. They can obviously use some stock, but CPQ will be leery of accepting it as any kind of currency. CPQ apparently needs cash, and they would have trouble converting a large amount of CMGI stock into cash without crushing CMGI in the process.

I think you have to balance CPQ's desperation for cash against its inclination to try to hold up CMGI for big bucks. I haven't heard of anyone else clamoring to buy AV. If we do pay a huge premium for AV it's going to hit our share prices pretty hard. I think we also get a better price if we use cash than if we use shares, or a combination thereof. Anyway, looks like a pretty critical period for us the next few months. I also don't appreciate Zeem screaming "sell!" everytime there's a downturn. We are not going to bail that easily.
