It cracks me up how much you guys are trying to sell this story.

Here's a news flash: AMD will be selling the story that the K7 uses the same platform infrastructure that the Alpha does. You know, the technology that goes in the boxes that cost $50,000 and you trust your mission critical apps to.

PB, Re: For AMD to crack the real corporate space, they will need to demonstrate a prowess in developing an entire platform that is stable

Which their K6 has a pretty good track record. It is the same
combination, AMD CPU with VIA/Ali chipset.

PB - Re: Even if all you say is true, there is more to it than that. K7 will start out as an enthusiast system at best, IMHO. For AMD to crack the real corporate space, they will need to demonstrate a prowess in developing an entire platform that is stable. A 15% break on the chip is not at all the entirety of what IS managers look at.

I must agree complete with PB on this one. If _I_ were given the choice between a K7 and a PIII at the same price, I'd go for the K7. However, if I were an IT Manager choosing for my company (and not myself as an enthusiast), I would choose the PIII. No question. If AMD can show that K7 boxes are nice and stable with no compatibility problems through Christmas... THEN I would probably choose the K7. Not before, though.
