I think, with the next generation of OS slowly coming out, that these differences will be muted and the Wintel/Apple controversy will fade.
Already, we see LINUX taking a nice chunk of market share, Apple will embrace it soon, if they haven't already (de facto).
In addition, the JAVA OS that is being developed will essentially make all these points moot.
These arguments are for short sighted investors. I prefer to look further afield. Who's the leading edge on the appliance as statement? AAPL. Who's the leading edge of functional capability. Still AAPL (though your arguments hold some weight in the short term).
I don't disagree that the arguments to shift to Wintel are strong. But they are misguided if you are comfortable with Apple, because the whole thing will seem like a silly school fight in 2 years.
