Hey Sweetheart, short sighted investors? We are making a living with our stations, and I believe the majority of posters are in a way or other involved professionally with the Apple platform, for many a year. Doren argument is elegantly simple, crystal clear, and above all precise, not to mention essential. You are arguing with what: "leading edge about the appliance as statement", "leading edge on functional capability"? Two years from now (BTW in digital that is the equivalent of the time between the first pyramid and the Golden Gate) all this will seem a school fight? You really are on a Webster sponsored acid trip. Here is a wake up call: the publishing and graphics world has changed, in point of fact two years ago: no more quark layouts and a walk to the service bureau on the daily menu. It is video, web, interactive! Don't forget, before your box comes your job, and your ability to update and perform at best your skills: artists are chiefly dedicated to that. The BW is a scam from that perspective and unsustainable any longer. Hell, I have a kazillion of 9600 we keep souping up, but I am growing tired of the farce and ready to toss the whole lot for a bunch of Sgi NT boxes. I can not and will not plan our company future on Stevo's notion of what our future should be, and then scramble to readjust when things don't work. When Apple was at 12 and some, the informed long term investor knew that Apple wasn't going away because the installed base, adequately nurtured, wasn't going to chuck huge investments in hardware and software away, add to that also willing to keep paying a hefty premium for Macs. Two years now have gone by, TO are biting art directors' asses left and right to get rid of their Macs to decently fit in companies networks: at the ranch, graphics are for all practical purposes disenfranchised by a ridiculous pansy line of cute boxes and a three PCI cheat called BW (but it opens up so fucking well...) The answer here is: so, who cares, i.Mac rulez, hey? Let's see how the "consumers" will hold up Macs at the next down-draft: APPLE WHO? You see, saying Apple is leading in smart appliances is as cretin a line as only a member of a clubbish thread populated now by self-indulging aging cheerleaders and pompous asses could write. You forget Titanic size companies squarely owning this market who could buy back our Macs and replace them just for kicks. Apple leaves and breaths commercial arts, and will keep doing so until the Great Revamp has taken place, on which I am incidentally betting myself being an investor, but indeed not sure a thing at all. Spin mastering is a good thing and Steve and Co are getting better and better. BUT, read huge but, they bloody better come up with a clear as light of the day map for Apple professional users. We need a new box and we want it now!!!
