Haven't got a answer to clearing up mess, someone will jump in. But many problems are caused by having a charting program on while taking action in QP2. Close metastock when you are downloading, unzipping, setting up new folders, etc. Both to a degree like to be alone. Am sure a NT type will step in. I haven't had a download error in months and months. My virtual files work like a charm for over a year. This product is stable, you can kill it. My daily activity hasn't. Another good tip for others, always close QV when you install a new version of QP2. QV is not supported in NT.
