> > >Boundless Technologies< < < Well. . Paullie. . . .applying some extrapolation to the recent AOL leaks and I come up with BND. Let me explain. . . AOL is "considering" Microworx or whatever that company is that makes the 300 dollar PC. . . for a dedicated system that does not use windows. . .and logs on directly to AOL. . . the PC would probably carry an AOL logo as well. Now the key is this. . .the reports are very preliminary. . .and one thing I know about AOL is that they do their homework. They consider all their options. . with visits to headquarters, etc. . . nothing was signed. Who knows if the quality of product for under 300 meets AOL standards. . .the question was never brought up. So then we think of other companies that could please AOL in their quest for the simple log-on. . . and we get E-Machines. . but I think they are so caught up in keeping up with their Best Buy contract and others. . .that they are at about full capacity. . .and may not be interested in making "private label" PCs. Then we think about "other" alternatives. . . like thin-client servers and terminals or "information appliances". . . and that brings us to the largest maker in America of such "private label" terminals. . . Boundless Technologies [BND]. They have made terminals to call up online services, mainframes or other servers for the likes of: Lucent Technologies Digital Equipment Corporation IBM Olivetti NCR the Tandem Division of Compaq Computer Stratus Computer Their most recent deal, signed just last week, was with NCR:As part of our OEM partnership, Boundless will provide NCR with thin-client solutions that will carry the prestigious NCR logo for distribution under the NCR 2990 and the NCR 2992 product families. . . The NCR 2992 model takes advantage of the latest advances in Boundless technology, providing a small, faster and less expensive solution than other competing products. Now the NCR units are designed for commercial usage and would be connected to call centers and warehousing in the retail market. But Boundless makes these terminals to meet a variety of specs. . .they use Intel or Cyrix processors. . .Windows, Windows NT, Unix or Linux. Now if it ended there, I would not be as interested. . .but here is an interesting PR that puts Boundless smack dab in the middle of the very market AOL is searching. . . .and if AOL is looking for direct connect internet appliances today. . . then it stands to reason that Mindspring, Prodigy, Yahoo, Lycos, Earthlink, CNET or others could follow suit and want their OWN egos stroked by having their logo on a piece of hardware that, with the push of one button, directly connects to their service. Here is Boundless story: biz.yahoo.com Excerpts from May 10, 1999 story: Boundless Technologies Enters Internet Appliances Market and Forms Appliance Products Group to Develop Internet Access Devices New Technical Advisory Board To Be Established Boundless Technologies, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Boundless Corporation (NASDAQ: BDLS - news), is entering the explosive Internet appliances market with its new Appliance Products Group that will develop low-cost, easy-to-use and high performing Internet access devices suited for Application Service Providers and Internet Service Providers in the emerging application outsourcing and application rental markets. The appliances also will be available to Internet Service Providers that wish to offer the easy-to-use, error-free general purpose devices for the consumer market. According to International Data Corporation, the high-end ASP market is expected to grow 91 percent over the next four years, reaching $2 billion in sales by 2003. IDC also reported that by 2002, worldwide shipments of non-PC devices for Internet access will grow 75.6 percent, compounded annually. ''Boundless' aggressive pursuit of Internet appliances is targeted at the many businesses that demand easy and affordable access to the internet,'' said Clare Gillan, vice president of applications and information access research, International Data Corporation, a leading global provider of information technology data, analysis and consulting. ''Boundless' early alignment with the exploding ASP marketplace is a very good move. The ASP model will only work if solutions are easy to deploy and manage. By addressing both ASP and end-user concerns in its strategy, Boundless has an opportunity to be a key enabling partner in the burgeoning ASP community.'' So what do we have? One one hand. . . .AOL looking for a simple "private label" piece of hardware to connect their customers directly to their service. . .which helps build customer loyalty. . .something AOL could really use right now. . . other ISPs. . even regional Bells. . .looking for similar direct connecting solutions. . . Then on the other hand. . . .we have Boundless Technology with 30 years of experience making terminals and having recently created a division of their corporation to make "internet appliances." HELLO?The appliances also will be available to Internet Service Providers that wish to offer the easy-to-use, error-free general purpose devices for the consumer market. Part of what we do here at HOME is project and predict future deals, partnerships or other relationships. . . in order to be there with cheap stock in our hand when the deal comes down. I have no information that would imply any relationship with BND and AOL or any other company. . . if I had "inside info" I would not post it and certainly would not trade against it. . .Connections made in this sort of thought process are merely speculation and conjecture. Please do your own due diligence and trade accordingly. Anyway. . .Paullie. . .this is what I meant when I said "one of our SAMs may start getting some attention soon". . . and why I needed time to divulge the complete thought. There was a tiny bit of speculative buying when the AOL plan was surmised. But the spread was as much as a whole dollar at times. . .so I just watched. . . if I am going to increase my position in BND. . .it is NOT going to be over 6 bucks. . .but rather UNDER 5 bucks. There you go. Rande Is
