lol. When I read the first line I was all ready to post back about Sillystring. Our minds might be different but there's some convergence there, too. <g>

Since you are a Sci-Fi fan, Lather, I assumed you were "conversant with" Superstring Theory, because it purports to be the Theory of Everything. If correct, it could serve as the unifying principle that Einstein vainly sought, the one that would reconcile quantum mechanics and his general theory of relativity! Hurrah!

Besides, you once cited Edwin Abbot's Flatlands, which superstringers also love to cite (to show how it is just as difficult for us to comprehend a 10-dimensional universe posited by Superstring Theory as it would be for a 2-dimensional creature to understand the third dimension).

The only reason I know this is because cosmology is the hobby of one of my sons, who is forever force-feeding me with the "latest developments." <g>

In case you really are totally "crashingly unconversant" with the theory, here is a brief summary:

For a more serious (and totally incomprehensible) explanation, see (& click on the picture):

Screw spirtuality; what I really want to know is how DO those string cans work? At least we can get the answer to that. In contrast, it functions right before our eyes. And the magic is worthy of worship, as far as I'm concerned.

I've never seen one of the cans or the stuff (I have a problem, I admit silly, about buying stuff that is immediately trash). So maybe it would be obvious if I seen one.
