True, but from what I (think I) have learned elsewhere, the telcos will focus on businesses first because that is where the money is. SBC won't have their DSL service here until next month at least, and will charge far more per month than Charter. When they come back on Tuesday, they'll be here about 20 minutes: insert card, configure email, etc., get online. To run a cable today took about 20 minutes. When completely upgraded for 2-way, I'll get an email telling me which cable to take out. That is not a big deal. People care about their pockets, and Charter is giving me free installation, first month free, and free modem until the end of the year. SBC won't do that.

<< I had the same experience with @home here... 2 service visits were required for installation and an ethernet card in my PC, which means if I get a new PC its another service call, etc. Besides being just a nuisance this high maintenance is slowing the growth of cable vs. DSL. In contrast G-lite doesn't require any on-site service.>>

I just bought a new computer not long ago, just order it with ethernet card and cable ready, for about an additional fee of 50 or 60 dollars. Hooked it up to my modem (motorola). installed the @home disk,on line in 10 or 15 minutes. If I were you I would look into G-lite a little more before making any decisions.

Here's an article I found on another thread concerning DSL vs Cable that I found enlightening...
