That makes sense Ish, and would explain why I read a burglar was arrested for shooting someone running out their house. The danger had passed and I believe the police saw it as excessive force. Never heard what happened in court though.

I doubt very seriously whether you could kill someone on your land who planted a burning cross. But, I would imagine it would have a great deal to do with the proximity to your home, and the race of the individuals concerned.

Good explanation. I remember arguing with a man who insisted that if he saw someone trying to steal the battery out of his car or his boat he'd shoot to kill. I know he's wrong, but maybe guys like him make the world a little safer for the rest of us.

Wonder what the crime situation would be if those of us with guns put a sticker on the house saying something like "This Property Protected by Smith&Wesson" and people like Christine put a sticker saying "This house is a gun-free zone"?
