CompUSA finally has a real sale today. Goes through Thursday. They must have something else planned for the Fourth Of July weekend. There wasn't many folks busting the doors down this morning. Looks like only giveaway pricing brings in the crowds.

What's the deal with promoting mainly Celerons and AMDs? What happened to the Pentium IIs? If you are paying about a thousand for a PC, why wouldn't you go a few bucks more for the real thing? Oh, I get it, bait and switch! Intel should be shot for even putting out the Celeron. Some people even think Celeron's a better than Pentium IIs. They're newer aren't they? Just confuses the consumer.

Why don't they just sell made-to-order PCs and Apples? The guys in the shop can throw a PC together in half an hour. Get a clue from Dell and Gateway! Too many choices on the floor. All hooked up and doing the same thing. 30 monitors? Why? Give the customer clear to understand options, a good warranty, and free support. Get rid of all those prepackaged units.

I'd much rather walk a desktop into a local dealer than have to box one up and ship it back somewhere (been there, done that - not fun at all). I'd pay a little more to have that convenience. If they would advertise this advantage, I guarantee business would increase.

IMO, today's CompUSA is overkill. Way too much inventory. Too many confusing choices for the layman. I know computers, and the place makes my head spin. I look for the sales, then leave. Non-sale stuff is too expensive (due to so much inventory, salesmen, and square footage).
