"Well...I use my thunb to hit the space key. I Don't use my thumb to hit any other key, so If I didn't use the space key, my thumb would get awfully neglected and weak."

Yes, but which thumb?

If you use only one thumb (as I do) to hit the space key, then the other would indeed be neglected when typing, but not necessarily weak -- that would depend on other uses to which the thumb might be put in a compensatory way.

For instance, my piano keyboard gives my left thumb quite a workout. But I don't use my left thumb at all when I play my autoharp. I use it a lot when playing my recorders (the flute-like instruments -- I have a Tenor, an Alto and several Soprano recorders).

I make sure to use my left thumb when a lot driving (I use it exclusively to honk my horn when driving the Eldo. I have to admit however that when driving my GMC pickup I let the right thumb and left thumb switch off when it comes to honking duty).

Thus there is no reason or excuse for one of one's thumbs to be come weak. Unless one does not care and just lets it wither away with non-use.

That being said, you can use your thumb in any way you please. However, I don't recommend using it as a target when practicing with your hammer. Nor can I recommend picking your nose with your thumb.

hope this helps

OK, boys and girls, the horse that we will beat to death this week is "84 Lumber". That should be good for four or five days of heavy breathing
