It creates selling pressure that leaves many in the market scratching their heads because it reflects selling which has nothing to do with inflation or Fed policy per se. Greenspan has said he would supply gold in the event of a market 'crisis' but he will not and could not move with gold where it is today. A fifty to one hundred percent jump in the gold price over a few days might bring some action. But not a gradual move over a few months.
