I haven't noticed 3dfx having a problem releasing factual PRs.

Whether or not TnT2 cards were available in May is irrelevant. The advantage rightly goes to 3dfx for being the first to market. However, there were various release dates of TnT2 based cards in May. June might see a change, or it might not. Meanwhile 3dfx has 2 months in the hole.

One thing to remember when looking at these sales figures is that the Voodoo3 3000 (for example) has one manufacturer whereas TnT2 chips are found on several brands. The way PC Data reports sales by the brand tends to stack the deck in 3dfx's favour. However, 3dfx legitimises it's lead up by saying "Voodoo3 3000 claimed 44 percent more unit shipments than all competing next-generation boards combined."
