Anyone else read Carmack's .plan with ramblings about 3D textures? finger.planetquake.com

An interesting comment:

It can be done completely by upcoming lighting and texgen hardware, but is efficient in software implementations.

Whose? We know NVID is working on lighting (lightning? ;-), but I haven't heard any mention of "texgen" hardware. T-Buffer anyone?

He also mentions "shadow buffers".

Hmmm, these unit shipped numbers don't make sense. If TDFX shipped 89% more Voodoo3-3000 units than the Creative Labs board, and 55% more than the Diamond board(s), that implies that the combination of these two boards alone outshipped the Voodoo3-3000 by 17%. So where do they get the 44% overall number from? Are they mixing and matching boards here? I guess the Voodoo3-2000 aren't included in these calculations also?
