V2 1000 beats TNT2 in retail sales for May?

messages.yahoo.com

Jesus...this branding thing is outa control. These stupid consumers will buy anything with a 3dfx logo on it. Remember all those "free" Voodoo2 chips 3dfx has stockpiled? They just might be able to get rid of the damn things. Will wonders never cease.

Pat

This price list: computermarket.com.au
lists a new "Creative Graphics Blaster TNT2 Value" product to arrive into the channel at a relatively low price (the existing high-end TNT2 products are called "3D Blaster"). This appears to be a move by Creative to be more competitive on price with 3dfx while still taking advantage of the TNT2 name.

By the way, I live in Europe and I have noticed that while STB used to have no presence at retail, Voodoo3 products can now be found at virtually every PC store and appear to be selling well.

Another fine example of the US' educational system! I figure that the person writing the article just doesn't understand how to do a basic word problem. This is sad.

As David pointed out:
(v3 is v3-3000, v2 is v3-2000, c is CLabs TNTx, d is Dmd TNTx, N is "all competing next-gen")

v = 1.89c = 1.55d
c+d = v/1.89 + v/1.55
(1.89)(1.55)(c+d) = 1.55v + 1.89v = 3.44v
c+d = 1.174v

The 44% more figure could make sense if V3-2000 is included. Assume
v3 = 100
v2 = 110
v2+v3 = 210
v2+v3 = 1.44N
N = 145

If Creative and Diamond were 80% of the "competing next-gen" products,
c+d = 1.17v = 117
(c+d)/N = 117/145 = 80.6%

This is the only way that makes sense to me, unless they did that silly discounting that was worked out earlier.
