Michael, I personally would never say "we are moving towards a valueless society." So I'm not sure I would see the disconnect you are referring to. What I see is not so much a loss in values, as a shift in values, and it affects individual families as well as society as a whole. In some cases, I think the shift has been in the right direction; in others, it has been in the wrong direction. All IMO, of course. Because one of the values at the top of my particular scale is respect for the right of others to have, and express, their own opinion.
