I need a reaction here! Am I the only one that thinks that Eds statement that we will soon not need a player is Major? That it implies that the entire browser window will soon be available for a combination of (that ?Emblaze? type of) graphics, text, and video?

One thing that helps minimize the stops and starts of the archived interview is to open the video frame in a new window and close the original window (right click on the pane with the video in it and choose the menu item open in a new window). I am impressed with the vision but much needs to change for it to become a reality. The net congestion thing is really irritating. I hope the new technology to be announced in November helps with this but it probably won't (sounds like it will mainly address picture quality I don't know what any one site can do about a crowded internet). Mr. B has clearly laid out his strategy (he is shooting for a paradigm shift). He has let us know where the money is going. It is plain that he got tired of waiting for other providers to create a demand for his storage products and feels that his entry into this field will spur competition, which should increase demand for the storage products. He also addressed the concerns that have been expressed regarding marketing, and I agree with his assessment (i.e. you market differently when you are marketing high ticket low volume products than you do when you are marketing low ticket high volume products). It sounds as if he has all the pieces in place and is ramping up for the real rollout late this year or early next year. If some sort of solution can be found to the net congestion problem this endeavor will fly (if we have to continue to put up with constant interruptions in mid-sentence we're in serious trouble). The flashy adds are nice but I've seen similar things on pointcast. I no longer bother with pointcast because the downloads took too long and it was easier to surf the web for the information that I wanted (by the time the pointcast stuff was delivered it was old and stale by internet standards). My internet connection is V.90 and usually around 44-45K. I chose to watch the 28k narrowcast and was still annoyed by the net-congestion messages(I don't think the connection to my ISP was the problem--it's analogous to having a 4-lane driveway connected to a 4-lane highway with bumper to bumper traffic). Sorry for rambling, I guess to sum it up this narrowcast highlighted both the promise and the problems with Mr. B.'s strategy.

Good Luck to all of us,
Steve
