For those trying to keep up with the latest MP-3 controversy

biz.yahoo.com

Just a comment about the copy protection that's been agreed upon,
The music will have to reside on some kind of media in a copy protected state,
in other words they're making the music copy protected by imbedding code into the download that will prevent the MP 3 player from playing a pirated version. That being the case, once the music download was installed on disk or memory media it would not be movable, obviously otherwise it could be pirated. The disk, cd, or hard drive data area would be consumed as long as you wanted the music. Sounds like a good place for Clik!, this is were low cost removable media will have a distinct advantage.

One other thing, it looks like the MP-3 format has come out of this a winner.

Gottfried, I hope you are right about the LS120. But with regard to a related issue, what about the 3.5" floppy disk? Will it ever go away? Zip disk prices have stabilized at about $10, but the puny floppy disks are selling for $0 to $0.25. For small text files (and there are a lot of small text files around) the floppy drive still serves a useful purpose. It looks like there will be a large mixture of different types of removable disk drives for the foreseeable future. The question is how will Iomega position itself to make $$$ in this environment? RC
