I always welcome a contrary view, if it is presented in a rational polite way. For some reason, this often does not seem to be the case with shorts. Rudeness, petty bickering and one upsmanship don't add to my knowledge or wealth. You're right that sometimes the bulls are just as bad, preferring boosterism to learning something new.
Just a thought, but perhaps the kind of personality required to be a perma-bear( rather than an occasional one) in the midst of the greatest bull market in history requires a certain type of person.
The word "usually" was too strong, but shorts are more likely to be using borrowed money because I believe a margin account is needed to short. IRA accounts aren't margin , can't borrow, can't short, thus must be cash or long. Also shorts likely have more firm convictions since they are rowing against the tide and thus are more willing to go to margin. One doesn't need that degree of conviction to buy an index fund for cash in a bull market. These are just thoughts, speculations, little of the above can be proved, so there's no point in any prolonged discussion.
The fact is that most people on these threads probably wish the shorts would go away. I don't agree, but I would like the shorts to state their views in a gentlemanly way, backing it up with bearish documentation. BTW,this kind of documentation is often hard to come by, since the sell side folks are unlikely to furnish it. On second thought, considering the poor results of small cap stocks over the last few years maybe that's the sweet spot for bears where you aren't rowing upstream. If you make $ doing it, great.
Perhaps a "vote to eject" is going too far unless the person was abusive, but I sure would like a "turn off" switch on postings so I could concentrate on the folks that I respect. I own about a dozen stocks and it's really hard to keep up. The longer I invest in stocks the more I know I still have a lot to learn. I'm inclined to want to spend most of my on line time with those who can help each other in that process.
FWIW phrases like "meaningless, useless, give us a break, if you want to bore people, you're babbling" -all derived from some of your recent posts- don't add much to a thread. Lighten up, please.
