Rdwng, re:<< FYI. Just placed on order yesterday for a new Dimension XPS 550. It shipped today. Incredible. I don't know how they can "assemble" them so quickly. Don't know if this is a bad sign for demand? I guess we'll know better in August!>> I ordered a XPS T450 for my daughter. It shipped the day after I ordered it. I was a little concerned about the speed in processing the order. What happened to the test cycle, burn-in, etc.? The computer arrived yesterday and I set it up last night. During the setup, I heard what sounded like an electrical arching in the tower. A few minutes after I heard the arching, the monitor shut down and then came back, the same for the tower. To me, it sounded like there was a short in the power supply. After the computer came back on, it seemed to be running ok. However, I'm watching to see if the problem returns. Nothing worse than an intermittent problem. "Installing" the software, even though it was preloaded, wasn't a "piece of cake". Had a hell-of-a-time installing IE5 that was preloaded. I had to call Dell Software Tech Support, and the Tech person helping me had a difficult time in getting the IE5 up and running. A person who was a novice with pc's would have said a few unkind words about the setup experience. MS Word 97 was preloaded. I check the Verson of the program and found that it had the SR-1 patch installed. The SR-2 patch was not there. MS requires that the SR-2 patch be install in order for the program to be fully Y2K compliant. I asked the Software Tech guy why the SR-2 patch wasn't installed. He checked his own version of the program and found the same situation as I reported to him. He ended up telling me that he didn't know why the SR-2 patch was not installed. Interesting... Stock Bull
