>Yes, I have mentioned the vulgarity problem, and the lack of culture. It is egregious.<

I am very disappointed with American culture.

>Listen to Bach's "St. Matthews Passion"…<

Dang yes. God wrote that dang music. Bach was just a little messenger.

You know I'm still in DC. The classical radio here is just like in NY. Yall play the same old junk. Mozart, Mendelsohn, Telemann, Vivaldi (actually the 4 Seasons - I'm gonna puke the next time I hear this piece) and dang Gershwin. With all the remarkable music out there one would think folks would play a better variety.

They should have at least one night where they play something with a little more guts to it.

>…go to a museum and appreciate the achievements of Caravaggio or Cezanne,<

Dang, Neocon. You be da man!

>… watch Kurosawa's "Sanjuro", read Dostoevsky's "The Brother's Karamazov": live a larger life!<

Groovy dude! I read "The Brothers" to a few of my kids awhile back. They loved it. I have also read to them "Crime and Punishment," and by now virtually all his works. One of my sons is dang nearly in love with Raskolnikov's sister, Dunia. (grin) The description of her character was really quite alluring in many ways.

I love the Russians. Tolstoy also is really quite remarkable. In one of his books, I forget which, he describes a peasant scene in which the protagonist drinks water from a metal can. He describes how a little grass was in the can and how refreshing the water tasted with just a tinge of rust from the can. DANG!! I tasted that dang water. (I think the work was Karenina).
